13 Men Broke the Navy’s Color Barrier

This is a POWER Story about How 13 Black Men Broke the Navy’s Toughest Color Barrier

During World War II, a group of African American sailors was chosen to integrate the Naval Officer Corps, forever changing what was possible in the U.S. Navy.

Sam Barnes racked his brain one chilly morning in January 1944, wondering what he might have done wrong. Barnes, a popular African American petty officer working at Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Illinois, had been in the Navy for 15 months and had never been disciplined. Why, he wondered, was he being ordered to the white side of the segregated station, a command usually reserved for sailors who were in trouble?

The 28-year old Ohio native walked the mile from Camp Robert Smalls, the black-only camp at the northwest corner of the station, to the main offices and found several other black men waiting. He recognized a few faces, but most were new to him and none could say why they had been summoned.

Commander Daniel W. Armstrong, a tall, handsome, aristocratic-looking man with an upright gait and an immaculate uniform, looked the 16 black men over. He was the white officer in charge of the black camp, a man whose willingness to work with African American enlistees earned praise from the higher-ups in Washington.

“Do you know why you are here?” he asked.

Silence.

Commissioned Officers

“Well, the Navy has decided to commission Negroes as officers in the United States Navy, and you have been selected to attend an officer indoctrination school,” Armstrong went on, as Barnes later recalled, in an oral history edited by Paul Stillwell, a retired Navy officer, historian and author.

The statement was matter-of-fact, unemotional. Armstrong did not congratulate; he did not encourage; he made no comment about historical significance. And yet his simple sentence marked one of the most radical decisions the Navy had ever made. Officer positions in the U.S. Navy had previously been off limits to black men, and these 16 enlistees had been summoned from training schools and shore installations across the United States to break that color barrier. They were going to attempt to integrate the officer corps.

For the 16 men, the stakes could not have been higher. There were nearly 100,000 black men in the Navy. If any of them were ever to wear an officer’s uniform, if any were ever to command a ship or graduate from the Naval Academy, if any were ever to lead white men in battle, then these 16 would have to succeed.

These men, who before the war had been metalsmiths, teachers, lawyers and college students—the children and grandchildren of slaves who had seen a family member lynched and been denied jobs because of their skin color—would have to prove that black men had the temperament for command and the leadership qualities necessary to wear the gold stripes.

The story of the Navy’s first black officers—told in full for the first time in Dan Goldberg’s book The Golden Thirteen: How Black Men Won the Right to Wear Navy Gold, remains little known, overshadowed by the heroics of the Tuskegee Airmen and Patton’s Panthers. But their success, both as candidates and as officers, forever changed what was possible for African American sailors and anticipated the coming civil rights movement.

Racism in the RANKS

Americans may have fought against racism abroad during World War II, but one of the most consequential battles in the war for equality took place 35 miles north of Chicago, in a Spartan barracks that held 16 cots, 16 chairs and one long table.

The decision to train black Naval officers was the culmination of a four-year campaign that began alongside the country’s preparations for war. When President Franklin Roosevelt in 1940 called upon the U.S. to become an “arsenal of democracy” and defend democratic ideals, he was referring to guns, ships and planes. Civil rights leaders and  activists heard a call for something less tangible but no less critical: equality.

From 1940 to 1944, thousands of Americans marched and protested, wrote letters and signed petitions, beseeching their congressmen and begging the president to let black men serve equally in the U.S. Navy. How could the United States preach and defend equality around the globe, they asked, and yet discriminate so outrageously in its own Navy? Even America’s war enemies, the Japanese, claimed that the so-called freedoms America espoused were for white men only.

Racism existed throughout the armed services at the time, but the Navy, whose leaders feared mixing races in the close quarters aboard ship could disrupt cohesion and damage morale, was especially hostile to people of color. The first black Army officer graduated West Point in 1877, and by World War II, the Army already had a black general.

The Navy, on the other hand, had suspended enlistment of blacks altogether from 1919 to 1933, and at the start of World War II, still denied black men entry into the general service, refusing to train them as electricians or machinists and insisting they work as messmen, where they were limited to serving meals and shining shoes. When civil rights leaders demanded fairer treatment they were confronted with an intransigent bureaucracy that was far more concerned with efficiency than with equality, by a Navy secretary who was certain that integration would bring disaster and by admirals who were adamant that worthy black men could not be found in the whole of the United States.

On the side of DEMOCRACY

It was an idea that the NAACP, civil rights leaders and black columnists said was necessary if the United States were truly to stand on the side of democracy. And it was an idea the Navy’s top brass considered a definite step backward. Major General Thomas Holcomb, commandant of the Marine Corps, called the enlistment of black men “absolutely tragic,” and told the General Board that African Americans had every opportunity “to satisfy their aspiration to serve in the Army.” Their desire to enter the naval service, he said, was largely an effort “to break into a club that doesn’t want them.”

Just six days after the General Board released its report saying it could not comply with a request to enlist 5,000 black men into the Navy’s general service, President Roosevelt, criticized in recent years by historians who believe he could have been more aggressive on civil rights, overruled his admirals and his Navy secretary. The president wrote that complete desegregation “would seriously impair the general average efficiency of the Navy” but also insisted that there were some additional tasks black men could perform in the general service without hurting cohesion aboard ships.

Over the next 18 months, thousands of black men would train as quartermasters, machinists and electricians, learning skills that would boost black employment and prosperity after the war.

But even as some barriers fell, one remained: At the end of 1943, there were still no black officers. There was also growing political pressure on the president and the Navy secretary to rectify what seemed to many a glaring blemish. Adlai Stevenson, the future two-time Democratic nominee for president, convinced Secretary of the Navy, Frank Knox that the situation was untenable. Stevenson, at the time Knox’s speechwriter and confidant, told his boss, an efficiency expert, that keeping black men out of the officer corps was now unquestionably inefficient.

There were 60,000 black men in the Navy, and 12,000 more were entering every month, Stevenson wrote to Knox on September 29, 1943. “Obviously, this cannot go on indefinitely without accepting some officers or trying to explain why we don’t,” Stevenson said. “I feel very emphatically that we should commission a few negroes.”

Knox assented. Three months later, Barnes and his comrades were in Armstrong’s office, learning they were going to make history. Many of Barnes’ fellow officer trainees were cynical, not yet willing to believe the Navy would really allow black officers, even after they completed their training. But each man swore he’d give it his all anyway. “We believed there were people who hoped we’d fail,” Barnes later recalled. “We were determined to succeed in spite of the burden that was being placed on our shoulders.”

The Chances

Giving black men a chance did not mean they’d be given equal treatment. Great Lakes Naval Training Station was home to an elite service school with plenty of equipment that could aid their training. But, the 16 candidates saw almost none of that. They trained separately from all other sailors, drilled apart, and ate alone, living in their own barracks in the segregated section of the station, essentially under house arrest. The officer corps was ready to be integrated. Great Lakes Naval Training Station was not.

Many in this first group recalled in interviews and oral histories that their white instructors weren’t all that interested in whether the men passed, failed or learned anything at all. Some instructors, it seemed to the officer candidates, acted as if this whole exercise was a waste of time.

Lt Richmond’s attitude, to be especially hard on the men, said he did that to motivate. And that it did. It them made the group even more determined. They were going to show him and every other Richmond-like figure they’d ever met.

And so they did.

The men were supposed to be in bed with the lights out at 10:30 p.m., but well past that hour, they sat together in the bathroom, flashlights in hand, studying the lessons of the past day and preparing for the day ahead. They draped sheets over the windows so no one outside would notice the light. They were intent on proving that their “selection was justified,” Barnes said, “and that we weren’t a party to tokenism.”

Jesse Arbor, a quartermaster, taught semaphore and Morse code. He’d give a prompt, Barnes remembered, such as “a ship approaching on such-and-such side.” The men would tap it out on the wall of the restroom. If they got it wrong, they’d start again. Even their toughest instructors weren’t as demanding as they were of themselves. When the men went to class the next day there was little a teacher could do to catch them off guard.

Despite the 20-hour days, the ridicule and the racism, the 16 candidates never outwardly showed any sign of dissent. They knew that losing their temper could give credence to the pervasive belief that black men lacked the demeanor necessary for command.

The Exams

Once, the officer candidates were lined up for a medical exam. “All right, you boys, strip down,” someone yelled. “Everything off. Strip down.” “Stand over there,” You can only imagine what was going to happen next. Body parts were smacked by a 36 inch ruler. His comrades were certain a riot was about to start. This was it. This was the moment they would surely be kicked out.

“Hey, boy, where did you get this thing from?” the pharmacist’s mate asked, still whacking Arbor’s body. Arbor looked him directly in the eye, just the way the Navy had taught.

“Well, you see, sir, I was raised in a white neighborhood.”

Nothing more than a snicker escaped his peers’ lips, and the white men, furious that they could not get a rise out of the officer candidates, stormed off. Their restraint was not an accident.

Posting Grades

As their training drew to a close in March 1944, the group was posting grades like no other officer class in history. Their marks were so high that some in Washington did not believe they could be real. The men were forced to take some exams again. They scored even higher the second time, eventually earning a collective 3.89 out of 4.0 for the entire course.

Toward the end of their 10-week course, when it became obvious that all of them would not only pass but pass with flying colors, the Navy said it would commission only 12 of the 16 men and a 13th would be made a warrant officer, meaning he’d be above noncommissioned men but still below Ensigns, the lowest officer rank. No official explanation was given for this decision. Whatever the reason, the result was that the first black class, a group that had posted higher marks than any class before it, would have the same pass rate as an average class of white officer candidates.

The 16 men were told that three would be dropped, but not which three. Instead, men were excused to be processed into officer ranks one by one, while the others sat, nervous and dejected, waiting to see who would be cast off. Armstrong never said why three of the men were not commissioned. They simply disappeared from the group and returned to enlisted duty.

When Arbor walked into Armstrong’s office, he remembered the commander looking him over. “Now, in the event that you would be in a position where there was a colored sailor and a white sailor in a fight, whose side would you take,” Armstrong asked, according to Arbor.

“Sir, I have to wait until that occasion arises.”

Armstrong stared at Arbor. He waited.

“The first thing I would think of to do is as an officer, as has been taught to me,” Arbor continued. “It’s the only thing I could rely on. My personal judgment would not enter into the case.”

“Well, that sounds pretty good,” Armstrong said. “Now you know there are no quarters for you.” Arbor didn’t know that. Since there were no segregated officer quarters, he and the men would have to live off base. They were also denied entry into officers’ clubs.

Same stripes… Not the same privileges

It was the first of many times these newly commissioned black officers would learn that they may wear the same stripes as white men, but they would not be given the same privileges. In fact, their commissions came with far more warnings and admonishments than respect and plaudits.

Combat remained out of the question. The Navy would not have black men commanding white men in battle. Instead, the first black officers were given make-work jobs—running drills, giving lectures on venereal disease and patrolling the waters off the California coast in a converted yacht.

They were ignored and disrespected at every turn. Still, they knew that they must keep their heads held high.

They had a responsibility to be the first, not the last. “We were the hopes and aspirations of the blacks in the Navy,” William Sylvester White recalled. “We were the forerunners. What we did or did not do determined whether the program expanded or failed.”

Two months after the first Ensigns graduated, the Navy commissioned 10 more men. This second group of officers proved just as capable as the first 13.

But the Navy never promoted the achievements of those first 13 officers who had broken one of the branch’s most intractable color barriers. For three decades, they were known only as “those

Negro naval officers” or, later, as “those black naval officers,”

This story was written By DAN GOLDBERG, and abridged by me. Dan Goldberg is a health care reporter for POLITICO Pro. He is the author of The Golden Thirteen: How Black Men Won the Right to Wear Navy Gold.

This Power Story is because:

These men had been winnowed from hundreds of potential candidates, chosen because the Navy deemed them not too extreme in their attitudes. Like Jackie Robinson, who would break baseball’s color barrier three years later, these men were chosen because they were expected to suffer these indignities quietly and gracefully.

By the late 1970s, a decade after the civil rights movement had forever changed the status of black people e in the United States, the Navy was newly proud of their accomplishment and ready to show them off. The surviving officers were feted as a symbol of racial integration, of progress, of pride, and a recruiting tool to inspire a new generation. I would like to personally thank these 13 Men. My son is a naval officer soon to be promoted because you paved the way.

POWER WORD: LIMITATIONS

Our Power Story Title Today is: The Other Side of the Gas Pump

As summer tries one last time to blast us with heat, we know that the weather is changing. The sleeves are longer and the shorts have disappeared. Errands take longer because the days are shorter and everyone has somewhere to go quickly! I was getting gas the other day and scrolling through my phone I found a photo. This is the story behind it.

Glenwood Springs, Colorado

As I said, I was getting gas the other day. I sometimes take pictures of the sign to remind myself I can be thankful when gas is less… Less than it was this day anyway. I remembered a story from just about this time of year, high in the mountains of Colorado. I was pumping my gas near Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Glenwood Springs is a resort city known for its hot springs. That is where I worked with the adults going to the Special Olympics in swimming. What an experience! The water is about 110 degrees right out of the rugged Rocky Mountains! The elevation there is 5,761 feet above sea level. This time of year, the landscape turns to every crayon color, if laid out from forest green, to fiery reds and of course the golden sunny hues from the incredible aspen trees. Higher in the mountains it had already snowed a couple of times!

Well, anyway, as I parked at the closest pump, considering it had already frozen that high in the mountains, a testament to the colors on the mountains rising in all directions, there in front of me on the other side of the pump, a mother and her son pulled up. The son (probably 10 maybe??) jumped out of the steamy warm car and ran in to prepay right before I did. I remember his small frame, tousled brown hair, and peeking from under his grey fleece hoodie, chocolate brown eyes. The remnants of summer freckles splashed across his button nose.

When I came out to my car, he was putting the nozzle in his mom’s car and clicking it locked so he could get back inside his warm car to wait. As I reached my car, I felt the chill of the evening through my own fleece jacket. Then, I saw his mom looking at me, and saying something to him. I thought maybe she was telling him something that was none of my business, so I turned toward the pump.

I heard his car door, and from the other side of the pump… he popped out, while pulling on a pair of obvious work gloves, and came around to my side and said…

It’s Too Cold…

“Ma’am it’s too cold, let me pump your gas for you”. The chill of the evening immediately melted away. I said, well of course. He motioned for me to get back into my car. As he finished pumping gas in my car FIRST, I rolled the window down to say, “Why Thank YOU! You are a real gentleman!”

The rest of his face went as red as his nose and cheeks, which hadn’t missed turning bright red from the cold. “You are welcome Ma’am, (it sounded so old… or maybe so respectful?) Have a good night!”

I sat there for a moment. It was the sweetest thing and definitely made my night.

The most important thing about this story is the very thing that brought you here. The COURAGE to BELIEVE in yourself, and be aware of what your service could mean to others!

Cecilia And The STARS!

This is a POWER story about: A Woman’s Belief in Herself

If you have the Book/Journal, PIP$ PROFIT$ & POWER, this story is related to the Intro p. xi: In the past your thoughts established your feelings and experiences about money, finances, bills, wealth and prosperity. The past is in your head.

The BEST Challenge from this story is found on P. 13, the Book, PIP$ PROFIT$ & POWER. … Messages in your head.

POWER WORD: CHOICES

Our Title Today is: Cecilia and the Stars!

There is little that can be done by one looking in from the outside, if someone doesn’t believe in themselves. I have had a friend for over 23+ years. She doesn’t believe in prayers offered for her, but is ready and calls people daily to pray for them! This is not her story… just something to think about.

OUR Universe…

“Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the person credited with discovering the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.” Jeremy Knowles, discussing the complete lack of recognition Cecilia Payne gets, even today, for her revolutionary discovery.

OH, WAIT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CECILIA PAYNE

Cecilia Payne’s mother refused to spend any money on her college education, and told her so, before she ever graduated from High School. So, she won a scholarship to Cambridge. Cecilia Payne completed her studies, but Cambridge wouldn’t give her a degree because she was a woman, so she said to heck with that and moved to the United States to work at Harvard.

Cecilia Payne was the first person ever to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy from Radcliffe College, with what Otto  Strauve called “the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy.”

Not only did Cecilia Payne discover what the universe is made of, she also discovered what the sun is made of (Henry Norris Russell, a fellow astronomer, is usually given credit for discovering that the sun’s composition is different from the Earth’s, but he came to his conclusions four years later than Payne—after telling her not to publish, because no one would believe her).

Cecilia Payne is the reason we know basically anything about variable stars (stars whose brightness as seen from earth fluctuations). Literally every other study on variable stars is based on her work. Cecilia Payne was the first woman to be promoted to full professor from within Harvard, and is often credited with breaking the glass ceiling for women in the Harvard science department and in astronomy, as well as inspiring entire generations of women to take up science as a career or a profession.

Cecilia Payne was awesome, and everyone should know about her. The most important thing about this story is the very thing that brought you here. The COURAGE to BELIEVE in yourself!

FOREX BOOK INTERVIEW: PIP$ PROFIT$ & POWER MINDSET MASTERY

When someone asked if I would like to do a FOREX book interview for PIP$ PROFIT$ & POWER FOREX MINDSET MASTERY and the companion JOURNAL, I was not only interested but thrilled. I know that my books aren’t at all like the famous Harry Potter books, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Animal Farm or Rich Dad Poor Dad, but to me, it was just as special. When I discovered that Benji Cole, son of Al Cole would be doing the interview, on their show, People of Distinction, I began to get a bit nervous, but also to seriously preparing!

Getting Ready for the BIG Online Book Interview

FOREX Trading and the mindset of the FOREX Trader are in extremely high demand because of the pandemic. Once the pandemic of Covid-19 hit the world, many lost their traditional means of earning money and found themselves working more and more from home. The searches for FOREX exponentially expanded! However, without Mindset Mastery, FOREX strategies and a trading plan, it is virtually impossible to consistently win trades and to protect the earnings in your trading account.

Just the same as FOREX Trading has exploded in popularity, Internet radio has had a burst of pertinent content available to anyone who has access to the Internet. Online trading has found a place on many the home computer and mobile device. Now, my interview (Click the link) is among all that content!

First, I looked online for others who had been interviewed about FOREX. I found nothing. Not to say there aren’t others, no, I just couldn’t find anything. I found many who bragged about their method of trading and how it is the best. Oodles of images depicting what some believe wealth is, piles of money, fancy clothes, gigantic mansions, or cars that go too fast for the roads in any neighborhood. Some images of private planes, however, not as many as before the stress of Covid-19 on the travel industry. So… What to do?

I looked for similar interviews and other book interviews posted by Al and Benji Cole. There are many and I learned a lot. I didn’t want to come across as boring, yet I learned that information not addressed in the interviews, left me wondering. I wanted to come across professionally and with a high degree of knowledge about my FOREX books.

The PIP$ PROFIT$ & POWER FOREX MINDSET MASERY INTERVIEW

The day came and Zoom became the medium to convey can create the audio portion of the interview. Zoom has become the way families connect, how business is accomplished, and how friends stay in touch with one another. My next Zoom is a virtual luncheon with the girls!

I felt sharing FOREX information for Mindset Mastery, using a trading DEMO account, to those who may not have any idea what that vocabulary was all about, was key!

I shared why I wrote this particular book at this particular time. I shared the significance of the title and the cover, how they came to be and what those blue lines mean on the cover. I shared what inspired me to write this ambitious  2-book bundle. I shared how to find what works BEST, the #1 Take-Away from the book and my favorite Challenge of the 88!

After the Interview…

I was elated! I was on a high for a couple of days! So excited! I felt like I delivered what I wanted to so that others would know all the good that can be found in the PIP$ PROFIT$ & POWER FOREX MINDSET MASTERY and JOURNAL.

I have had a great deal of interest not only in the books, but how they are being marketed and sold! New opportunities come almost daily now. I have had large groups of traders approach me about purchasing a large number of books to use for their whole group!

I have had individuals who purchased the bundle contact me about specifics with Mindset and how to continue to build CONSISTENT CONFIDENCE, as they continue their trading journey.   Let me know how your FOREX trading journey is progressing!!

FOREX TRADING: LIKE A BOX of CHOCOLATES

FOREX trading is like a box of Chocolates. There is a season for the best trading, there is the promise of getting just what you want, and there is a chance you will like FOREX trading so much… you will come back for more! Just like a box of chocolates!

Best Season for FOREX Trading?

The Best season for Trading FOREX is typically the fall and the spring. The holidays are times when the markets tend to take thankfully what seems like a break. Also, the summer can be a slower time as the markets can have less liquidity. As you look for FOREX pairs to trade, you may find that the pairs have many characteristics in common. There are pairs whose price action is similar and there are pairs in which price action is opposite. The chart below can help you make decisions of how to trade some of the companion pairs those that can work together and the opposing pairs those which work opposite.

Same Direction Currency Pairs Opposite Direction Currency Pairs
EURUSD  +  GBPUSDEURUSD  +  USDCHF
EURUSD  + AUDUSDGBPUSD  +  USDJPY
USDCHF  + USDJPYUSDCAD  + AUDUSD
AUDUSD  + NZDUSDUSDJPY  +  AUDUSD
 GBPUSD  +  USDCHF
 USD  + GOLD

Similar to trading, beautifully boxed chocolates are mostly available from mid-September until after Mother’s Day. They are a great gift if you are sure this is the gift someone really wants! As the box is opened, it appears that all the chocolates look all the same. They are nestled in their little white paper holders, homey and yet separated nicely from the others. FOREX trades are much the same. Each trade may look similar when it is placed, but as you learn how to choose trades with high risk to reward trades… you will discover which (flavor) you like the BEST!

Getting WHAT You Want with FOREX Trading

The most important step in FOREX trading is determining WHAT you want. If you approach FOREX trading like you would a college educational experience… you will most likely get what you want and a great deal more. If you approach FOREX trading as a means to increase your bank account or to pay next month’s rent… you may be sorely disappointed. Learning how to trade FOREX takes time and attention. Developing a proper Mindset starts with a specific idea of WHAT you want to learn and applying what you continue to learn with each trade. Getting what you most desire comes primarily from your Mindset and your motivation.

If you haven’t yet had a Mindset Mastery experience, how do you know which trade to choose? Should I choose a Major trading pair or an Exotic? Maybe Energy? Finding FOREX trades, which match your Mindset, your lifestyle, your tolerance for risk and your budget. FOREX trades are much like the flavors found in the box of chocolates. Each one is different…. Unless you stick with only one pair. Then the flavor is always the same! The chocolates with nuts may be a little more distinguishable but even then, how do you find the milk chocolates with cashews rather than the dark chocolates with brazil nuts, all hiding their secrets inside. There could be nougats, covered cherries, chocolates with nuts and sometimes coconut bathed in smooth chocolate, just like FOREX trading.

MORE FOREX Trading and MORE Chocolate!

Chances are, if your first few FOREX trades were profitable using your DEMO account, you have been back for more! Your learning curve could be very steep, and you may want to place trade after trade. This is normal, and yet would you do the same with real money? Most likely not. It may take some additional education, time and most likely confidence before you take the leap

FOREX MINDSET: The Death of a Trader

A poor FOREX MINDSET could be the death of a trader. The Newbie trader believes that FOREX trading is a viable way to earn money. A more experienced trader, one who plans to trade on a real funded account, then believes so strongly in the concept of trading, that they found a broker, created a brokerage account, and took risks to fund that account. The experienced trader equally understands that real money can be lost. What keeps this trader trading? It is a strong conviction that the concept that money will be made in more trades than losses when FOREX trading.  The trader explores the industry and continues to take risks with real money. This article will expose three things that kill a trader and how to avoid the fall.

A FOREX TRADER’S DEATH BEGINS WITH DOUBT…

The death of your trading journey will first be exposed as doubt. Doubt happens when trades do their thing. Trades have a way of getting away with murder! When trades are entered without proper planning, goal setting and information from the charts, trades could follow the ways of a river, weaving and wandering farther and farther from the 50% average, that would make them a straight line. This impacts the mindset of a Trader by weakening their resolve and confidence when the Trader contemplates placing future trades. The trader faces a mental dead end straight ahead!

The belief of any trader must first be defined and built with positive messages and small increments of success. The result of any trade must come with substantial belief in the industry. With each successful trade, increased belief in the industry is formed. As trades go into the red and losses must be taken, doubt in the industry and in the skill levels of the trader are tested.  As this occurs over and over, the missing positive trades erode the energy and stamina of the trader. Once weakened additional poor, desperate and frantic decisions could be made.

MAKING POOR FOREX DECISIONS…

When the trader engages in practice trading, blowing a DEMO account does not have the same impact as it does when the account has been fully funded. Losing real money can have physical, emotional, mental and at times, sexual implications. The connotations of these could be life changing. These are the reasons why making poor FOREX decisions pours salt into the wounds, constituting real reasons why some traders have had enough, at this point. These traders become the ‘special victims’ to the law and order of the rules for trading and death becomes them. Their trading journey is over.

FOREX BOTTOM LINE BECOME THE BODY OF TRUTH…

Keeping a FOREX journal exposes how your past trade ideas directly impact your FOREX bottom line. Reviewing past trades is truly the best way to justify your next trade. Without this volume of information, it is almost impossible to pick up on the tiny mistakes that could quietly be extracting funds from your account. Those tiny mistakes can be the compared to criminal minds or chess, because they feel stealthy and sneaky, but they are right out there in the open.

By now, the trader has already stopped practicing. Trading is no longer fun. The enthusiasm that was once matched with the potential successful trade is gone. The weaker and less efficient the Trader’s FOREX trading decisions become, the greater the losses due to desperation, the feelings of losing money and guilt. As the account shrinks, the trader starts to make changes. The trader may not recognize the impacts of the changes that they make to individual trades because the trader is making too many changes too fast, forcing the account into oblivion.

AFFIRMATIONS & FOREX MINDSET MASTERY

Affirmations are powerful and influential in behavioral implications. Affirmations can help shape and mold a desired pathway towards your ultimate destination or goal.

AFFIRMATIONS & FOREX MINDSET MASTERY

Affirmations are what you say and/or write down to create positive statements for FOREX Mindset Mastery.  This is to help you create the lifestyle you desire. If your thoughts are holding you back, this article is for you! Become your own BEST cheerleader.

WHAT ROLE DO AFFIRMATIONS PLAY IN MINDSET MASTERY?

PPP-ForexAffirmations

So, what role do affirmations play when it comes to MINDSET MASTERY for FOREX? In addition to meditation, affirmations are one of the most powerful tools to prepare the MINDSET for FOREX trading. Affirmations are powerful and influential in behavioral implications. Affirmations can help shape and mold a desired pathway towards your ultimate destination or goal.

Thoughts configure your experiences. Thoughts paint and influence perception, positive attitude and supportive thinking. This attitude supports a planned, positive and prosperous outcome! Studies have shown that the act of choosing positive thoughts (affirmations) has a direct effect on your central nervous system, day to day experiences, choices made, and the interactions with others, all impacting your outlook on FOREX trading and your life.

HOW POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS WORK

I used positive affirmations to write the book PIP$ PROFT$ & POWER FOREX Mindset Mastery and the matching JOURNAL for FOREX traders. Affirmations create an atmosphere in which a gigantic project can be broken down into steps and made manageable. This project was not meant to be two books, however, after careful consideration about how they could be BEST used, the decision was made to separate them.

Positive affirmations continue to mold my thoughts and behaviors as I write the articles for this blog. The positive thoughts I have, will hopefully be passed on to you. I continue to trade each day and as I do, my affirmations project what I wish my outcomes to be. I am rarely disappointed.

WILL POSTITIVE AFFIRMATIONS WORK FOR YOU?

Practice positive affirmations is no different from trading, exercising or learning a new skill or language. The more you practice the stronger and more efficient your FOREX entries and exits become. The stronger your muscles become as you exercise them. The better the results you will see as the new skill or language is practiced. However, we as humans are always thinking thoughts. If the thoughts are empty, negative or unplanned, the results will be indiscriminate, without purpose and unprofitable.

We must remember that our thoughts are things and they are constantly influencing our present and our future. Positive affirmations repeated regularly allow the human brain to begin to believe them. This practice is growing around the globe as the positive benefits are becoming more and more apparent. Affirmations have also proven to break bad habits, reduce FEAR and erase DOUBT. All of which impair FOREX trading. Strengthen good habits and build Constant Confidence with affirmations for FOREX trading.

WHAT IS THE BEST TOOL FOR AFFIRMATIONS FOR FOREX?

PPP-MindsetMastery

These positive and encouraging statements will help you create the Abundant Gratitude lifestyle you so richly desire. Consider that choosing encouraging supportive thoughts will teach to you better love yourself and provide you with FREE help to reach your ultimate goals.

PIP$ TIP$: Counting PIP$ is different with the Japanese Yen.

PROFIT$ PRO$: Maintaining proper Risk Management is achieved as the balance in your accountgrows. What should be considered when you make a profit?

POWER POINTER$: Starting today, I will use affirmations to MASTER my MINDSET for FOREX trading.

Mindset Mastery: (Question from a customer.) How do you get ready to trade? I use any tools in Mindset Mastery that I need at any given time. I could use my tools. I re-read the chapter on Passion and Greed, in Pip$ Profit$ and POWER FOREX Mindset Mastery and completed Challenge #47. Power word: PASSION. That really helped me.

GENESIS & HISTORY OF FOREX & MINDSET MASTERY

The genesis and history of FOREX trading on the world markets dates back, to the bartering system. At the same PPPbarter

time Mindset Mastery was born. Inherently, in the bartering system there were issues making payment fair and equal. Some of the early trading tools were the Cowry shells, the Koku which is a unit of rice or a Shekel which is how barley was measured. Coins came onto the trading scene much later.

WHAT ROLE DOES THE GENESIS AND HISTORY PLAY IN MINDSET MASTERY?

The genesis and history of early trading set up the inception of coins, paper money and now electronic monetary exchanges. This evolution occurred because trading was becoming more widely accepted and larger amounts of money were being traded over longer distances all the time. The benefits of using coins was that a uniform weight could be adopted and accepted. Coins were far easier to transport than sheep, goats, cattle, grain or large bags of clanking coins.

Paper currency was introduced by the Chinese during the Tang dynasty during the 7th century but did not appear until the 11th century. It was not used in the Untied States until 1690, and this is how the civil war was paid for. The most common issue with a paper currency is that it is easily counterfeited. This problem still exists and men have lost their lives as a result of passing off counterfeit paper currency to this day.

The Gold Standard for paper currency was based on the idea that notes or certificates could be traded as if they were gold. The United States adopted the same world view. In 1913 the U.S. congress created the Federal Reserve to stabilize the prices for gold and currencies. This remained in place until August 25, 1971, when then U.S. President Richard M. Nixon removed the gold standard. No longer would gold back the U.S. dollar, even though the Federal Reserve continues to attempt to stabilize gold and currency prices worldwide.

So, when did MINDSET MASTERY for FOREX start? When the Floating Exchange Rate were created for the FOREX market. This was determined by supply and demand for a specific country’s currency. The U.S., Canada, the current Euro-zone and England all participate. However, ironically, China does not. Understanding the genesis and history of trading should provide knowledge and understanding for FOREX MINDSET Mastery. Knowledge is powerful and influential in behavioral implications and can help shape and mold a desired pathway towards your ultimate FOREX goals.

HOW GENESIS AND HISTORY KNOWLEDGE WORKED FOR ME

I use the GENESIS AND HISTORY knowledge to remind myself how the Federal Reserve regulates the pairs I like to trade. When I wrote the book PIP$ PROFT$ & POWER FOREX Mindset Mastery and the matching JOURNAL for FOREX traders, I was able to incorporate this knowledge in to helping the new trader understand the process.

Knowledge and understanding continue to mold my thoughts and behaviors as I trade and write the articles for this blog. Knowing how the Federal Reserve works can help you make well informed decisions each time the head of this agency speaks. Note that most any move in the U.S. interest rates will be dictated by this body.

WILL UNDERSTANDING FOREX HISTORY WORK FOR YOU?

There is an old saying… When we know and understand our history, we are less likely to repeat it. This is true of poor history, in which people and economies are stressed and fail and of great history where people, communities and countries thrive and prosper. It is also important to remember that decisions made in the past do impact our daily lives. The decisions you make today about FOREX trading will impact your future in trading also. Can your account handle what you are planning to do today if the market goes against your plan?

Practice listening to and learning what the Fed Chair says and how it directly impacts you. It is just like your affirmations. The more you practice the stronger and more efficient your FOREX trading decisions become. The better the results you will see. Soon you will be able to recognize the impact this person and the agency has on the Central Banks, interest rates and how policy is sometimes driven.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO APPLY HISTORY FOR FOREX?

This knowledge of history and understanding that you can watch and be a part of FOREX history every day will help you create the Abundant Gratitude lifestyle you so richly desire. Consider that choosing understanding will also help you pass accurate information on to the next generation of FOREX traders.

PIP$ TIP$: Counting PIP$ should be considered for each FOREX trade.

PROFIT$ PRO$: Don’t let a winning trade turn into a losing trade… waiting for more profits. What should be considered when you make a profit?

POWER POINTER$: Starting today, I will use GENESIS AND HISTORY to MASTER my MINDSET for FOREX trading
